Jackson Taylor's Fever Creek, exhibited at Welcome Gallery (in conjunction with New City Arts) in Charlottesville, VA, in May 2023, offered a fragmented and unsettling portrait of the post-pandemic South. Through lithographic prints and a commercially printed tarp installation, Taylor presented distorted and abstracted renderings of concrete yard ornaments and textures of decay. By minimizing legibility and clarity, the artist created a visual language of ambiguity, reflecting the pervasive sense of complacency and resignation that can settle in the wake of societal upheaval. However, even within this atmosphere of disillusionment, a flicker of feverish idealism remained, a faint hope for a better future despite the challenges.
